The Mermaids

In January of 2003 when Riverfront Athletic Club closed down, the Mermaids were looking for a new home. They investigated many clubs, and chose Champion for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and quality water aerobics instructors. Many of the Mermaids travel quite a distance to come to Champion, some for as many as 20 miles.

The Mermaids were nominated for Champions Among Us by Deb Oas, Champion's Aquatics Coordinator, because they are such a "loyal group of wonderful ladies." Every week, the Mermaids come to Champion, rain or shine, for the water aerobics classes. It is a pleasure for Deb and any other of the instructors to work with them because they are always giving the class 100% effort.

Additionally, the group has a terrific sense of humor, which makes for an exciting class. "The aquatics department is so much better with the Mermaids here," says Deb Oas. 

Outside of water aerobics classes at Champion, the Mermaids enjoy lunches, traveling, and socializing. One of the Mermaids, Nancy, is even writing a murder mystery involving - (you guessed it)…the Mermaids!
